Higher-income countries are aging rapidly, whereas lower-income countries remain young. The world as a whole is rapidly aging. Globally, the number of people over age 65 is already larger than the number of children under age five. By 2050, it will be double that of children under age five and larger than the number of youth ages 15–24.
